Precise Rehab Sdn. Bhd.
Raja bounces between his corporate life as a senior partner consultant and as a CrossFit athlete. Here, he describes his recovery journey with Precise Rehab.
What challenges was your body experiencing?
Back in 2019, Masters League 19.4, I was doing a maximal Clean and Jerk, I was testing for a personal record. I lost my form and it impacted my back – specifically the Quadratus lumborum (QL). I didn't know what it was until it was diagnosed by Precise Rehab. I felt so much tightness in the back which eventually forced me to take a break from weights, but even during the rest it was still bothering me.

How long have you been experiencing this?
1 year up to date for QL strain.

How did it impact your day-to-day life?
Some of the pain for instance, my shoulder is only aggravated during workouts but the QL pain was present most of the time. I thought that it would go away with sufficient rest but it didn't so I went to get it checked. Outside of my workouts, it was a challenge trying to lift groceries, coming out of the car, turning around to reach items. The simplest of movements will trigger the pain.

What brought you to Precise Rehab?
It went back to even before Precise Rehab was formed, when I was training at Rev Republic. Before CrossFit, I had some kind of injury (shoulders and knee) and someone recommended me to see Ong Lip Qin. He managed to pinpoint the issue I had and alleviated it. After some time when Precise Rehab was established, we decided that Precise Rehab could be involved as official physiotherapists for the Master's League tournament. Knowing that people & myself can have the best, why not go back to it? I needed someone whom I can trust and that has been proven to me by my current physiotherapist in Precise Rehab, Daniel Kam.

What has been the most rewarding part of your recovery journey?
I came out of it with a very clear understanding of my condition. Assessment was on point as I was given a clear vision of my injury and its potential. I was taught to be more mindful of my movements without any further amplification of problems. Having the knowledge of my problems made the series of stretches and exercises given to me more understandable. Daniel took his time to run through the basic idea of "bracing" the core as well as the variety of exercises to perform to ensure that I am able to incorporate it into my WODs. Two days later, I PR-ed on my back squats. How amazing is that?

How would you describe your Precise Rehab journey?
I describe the physiotherapists as people I can trust. I need someone who has experience working with athletes and one who understands my style of training. Prior meeting to Lip Qin, he already has experience of dealing with Master Athletes and that gave me more reassurance that I am in good hands.
